Alexander Tan Fai Chai is born in Teluk Intan, Perak on 17 June 1982 to his parents of Chinese descent. Both of his parents operated a mini market together. He often helps at the mini market by arranging goods on the shelves and doing basic calculation of sales. Therefore, he is arguably good at mathematics, which is quintessential for a future casino expert. During his rebellious teenage years, he gambled with his friends at school with card games and played mahjong with the elderly at coffee shops. In his 20s, he frequented Genting Highlands in Malaysia, and Resorts World Sentosa Casino and Marina Bay Sands Casino, both of the latter in Singapore.
